I've been on the hunt for a new fall lipstick that would bring my pale skin to life. Between the loss of my summer tan and freezing cold temperatures in New York my skin has been looking kinda drab. I LOVE a dark lip, but I have trouble wearing such a heavy lip during the day for a few reasons A) I don't want to look goth, I think that struggle is real with any dark lip color. B) I am always conscious about touch-ups. Drinking water, coffee or whatever as the day goes on is not conducive with a dark lipstick. That shit needs to look on point, the minute it smudges you look like a crazy girl with dark purple on your teeth. Not cute. I happen to love a red lip done right, but I wanted an alternative to the ever popular somewhat basic trend. I also feel like anytime I wear a red lip to the office I get 101 questions from the guys about where I'm going that night. So in my head I had a berry lip in mind. Having just read Glitter Guide
http://theglitterguide.com/ this morning I was sure the MAC color they featured "Heroine" was going to be mine. When I went to the store and tried it on I immediately wiped it off- woof! What is described as a "deep raspberry tone" looked like florescent purple on me- it was bad! I enlisted the help of a lady who worked there and she steered my toward a pink berry color with plum undertones called "Flat Out Fabulous". Its part of their "Retro Matte" line so this stuff isn't coming off anytime soon it really stuck to my lips. She had me pair it with fuchsia red lip liner called "Beet". Initially I wasn't trying to be sold a liner, but once I tried the combo I knew I was getting both. It brought a darker ombre look to my lip and with dreams that "Beet" would turn my lips into Kylie Jenner's I bought the damn pencil.
You can purchase it online here or in store:
